New MINI Workshop Session!!

How do children become aware of their own emotions?

How do they learn to recognize the emotions of others?

How do they learn to respond, instead of react to their emotions and the emotions of others?

In the early years, we do a lot of teaching through modelling. The old adage is true, in a broad context, children will do what we do, not what we say, especially as adults. It’s incredible how much we tend to model our parents in adulthood, but less so in childhood. Aside from modelling, as children age, they become more able to have meaningful and thoughtful conversations about their emotions and the emotions of others. Despite their ability to do so, we often aren’t intentionally taking the time to have these conversations as often as we would like to. This mini workshop is something you can watch with your child, as a family and then there are little tasks to help you and your child learn about emotions; regulating them, responding to them, identifying them in others, meeting emotional needs and conflict resolution through empathy and emotional awareness.

A lot of these moments of learning may happen when our child is not with us, maybe at school. A lot of schools use a certain language to help children understand emotions. The program itself does not fully align with Responsive Parenting practices and that can be a challenge. This workshop session shows an easy way to integrate some of the language they may use at school, around regulation and emotion, into our practices of Responsive Parenting. This can make it more seamless when our children are trying to use the tools they learn at home and at school. Practicing at home and having intentional conversations about emotions and self-regulation can really help children to embody their learning.

What is a mini workshop? It means it’s only one session, usually somewhere between 30-60 minutes. You receive all the materials right away and can watch the session whenever you like.

This session is a condensed, child friendly version of the content we talk about in the Emotionally Overwhelmed Workshop Series. If you want an expanded version of this information, I recommend that workshop series. The Co-Regulation Exercises Children’s Book and Finding Your Calm are also books that can add to your learning or your child’s.
